Don’t Sell—Start the Conversation

Doors Open When You Knock:

How to Reach Out to Corporate Wellness Leads Without Feeling Salesy

Let’s be honest. Reaching out to corporate leads can feel awkward.

“What if I sound pushy?”

“What do I even say?”

“Do I just send a sales pitch?”

Deep breath. Exhale.

This blog is your step-by-step guide for talking to companies about your wellness services without sounding like a telemarketer. Whether you're a sound healer, a yoga teacher, or a holistic health coach—this is how you build genuine connections and get your foot in the corporate door.

🎯 First, Set the Right Intention

Forget selling. Your goal is to start a conversation. My mentor Joseph Rodrigues calls this an “exploratory conversation.” That’s exactly what it is.

You're not trying to push a program. You’re asking, “Hey, how are things going over there with your team’s wellbeing?” That’s it.

Keep it light. Keep it real. And above all—stay curious.

🌱 Plant Seeds, Not Pitches

When you send an email or make a call, you’re planting a seed. You’re not trying to grow a forest overnight. Some leads might sprout quickly. Some might take months.

I once reached out to a referral back in February. She was a health insurance broker who manages wellness for dozens of companies. Guess what? She finally booked a discovery call with me... in July. That’s five months of light touches, emails, and voicemails.

She didn’t ghost me. She was just busy. And your leads are, too.

Keep watering those seeds.

🛠 The 5-Step Outreach Recipe

If you want to build a thriving corporate wellness business, you’ve got to master this daily rhythm. Here’s my exact system:

1. Create a “Work With Me” PDF

This is your mini-resume meets menu of services. It should:

  • Show your photo (hello, human connection!)

  • Include a short intro about your “why”

  • Share your core services like wellness days, assessments, challenges, workshops

  • Include a link to book a call

I made mine in Canva and uploaded it to my website. You can also save it as a Google Doc and send it as a link. Here’s what mine looks like!

Pro Tip: Highlight your favorite service. For me, that’s wellness days. They’re low-pressure, fun, and a great way to showcase value quickly.

2. Reach Out to 5 New Leads Each Day

Use email, LinkedIn, or even Facebook Messenger. Keep it casual and kind. Here’s a sample script:

“Hi [First Name], I’m a corporate wellness consultant who specializes in helping small teams thrive. I’d love to share a simple idea like a Wellness Day or Lunch & Learn that boosts morale and energy—especially during busy seasons. Would you be open to a quick chat?”

Remember: This is leadership, not desperation.

3. Follow Up the Next Day With a Call

Yes, really. One day after sending the message, call them. Even if you only get a receptionist or voicemail, your voice adds warmth and credibility.

Sample call line:

“Hi, it’s Kathie Owen. I sent you an email yesterday with a fun wellness idea. Just wanted to follow up and hear your thoughts!”

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get a call back. You’re making an impression.

Watch this video, it’s a Ted Talk about rejection. It’ll inspire you!

4. Track Every Contact

I use Notion, but Google Sheets works too. Track:

  • Name

  • Company

  • Email sent date

  • Follow-up call date

  • Response status

  • Notes from conversations

  • Vibe (Trust your gut!)

If someone says “not right now,” I move them down to follow up a few months later. Simple as that.

5. Repeat (and Add 5 Follow-Ups Daily)

Five new contacts + five follow-ups = momentum. After 4 weeks, you’ll have 100 seeds planted. And according to industry averages, 2–3 will bloom into paying clients.

Not bad for a morning routine that takes under an hour.

🧠 What to Say in a Discovery Call

Your job isn’t to talk about yourself. It’s to ask good questions and listen. Think of your discovery call like a wellness check-in for the company itself.

Here are a few to get you started:

  • “What have you tried in the past to support employee wellness?”

  • “What’s working well? What’s not?”

  • “If you could wave a magic wand, what would wellness at work look like?”

Let them talk more than you do.

After the call, you can send a custom proposal—or a simple quick win like a resource, checklist, or a quote to run a small wellness day.

That’s it.

No pressure. No pitching. Just value and connection.

🚫 Common Mistakes to Avoid

Let’s save you some pain and wasted energy.

And honestly, I don’t like to call them mistakes. Instead let’s reframe that to common opportunities!

❌ Don’t send vague or boring emails

❌ Don’t dump your full pricing and services all at once

❌ Don’t wait for permission to follow up

❌ Don’t assume silence = no

❌ Don’t give up after one attempt

Instead...

✅ Personalize your message

✅ Offer something small (like a wellness day)

✅ Follow up confidently

✅ Track your progress

✅ Keep showing up

🙋‍♀️ Real Talk: This Gets Easier

At first, you’ll be nervous. You’ll overthink every word.

But with practice, this process becomes second nature.

You’ll get better at asking questions. You’ll know how to handle objections. You’ll learn to trust your instincts.

More importantly—you’ll start showing up like a true leader.

And remember what I always say: You’re not selling a product. You’re inviting transformation.

Somewhere out there is an employee who is stressed, tired, and quietly struggling. And your voice, your expertise, your heart could be exactly what they need.

So don’t stay silent.

Reach out. Speak up. Offer the help only you can give.

🧩 Bonus: Tools I Recommend

  • TidyCal – One-time fee scheduling app (great for booking calls)

  • Canva – To design your Work With Me page

  • MailerLite or Squarespace – To build simple landing pages if needed

  • ChatGPT – Use prompts to draft emails or outreach messages quickly

Here’s a simple prompt you can try:

“Write a friendly outreach email introducing me as a wellness consultant for small teams. Mention wellness days and link to my calendar.”

Easy peasy.
