Productive entrepreneur mindset

A productive entrepreneur mindset is one that is focused on achieving goals, being efficient with time and resources, and continuously learning and improving. So what does it take to really run a successful business? As entrepreneurs, we have new ideas and innovations. But there is not just one way to enter those new ventures.

The entrepreneurial spirit takes a skill set, a positive attitude, and a balance between work and personal life. I have personally studied some of the best entrepreneurs. Jay Abraham is one of them, as Napoleon Hill books and concepts, and even Amy Porterfield (whom I refuse to market like). I have also studied and been mentored by Joseph Rodrigues and ideally model my own business ventures as he does and teaches.

Here are 8 key elements of a productive entrepreneur mindset

  1. Set Clear Goals

This may seem obvious. But as I mentioned in the article on flow last week these goals need to be set at an abstract and granular level. I love setting my goals on a mind map because this is the easiest way to start with the big goal and go into the granular level.

One of the best ways to explain this is the SMART goal method. Setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) objectives is a good way to plan the steps to meet the long-term goals in your business plan.

This is the best way to have a clear understanding of what you want to achieve and set that goal at an abstract and granular level.

2. Prioritize Tasks

As entrepreneurs, we have limited time and resources. We need to be able to prioritize tasks and focus on the most important things that need to be done in order to achieve our goals.

I love Notion for this but you can use any project management system like Asana, Trello, or Monday for help with prioritizing tasks. These tools help us identify the most actionable steps to reach that big goal. Using something like Notion has made it simple for me to break the big things down into small tasks that I can do on a daily basis. It is entrepreneurial thinking for the long run and also proves helpful in the long term.

3. Being resourceful

As entrepreneurs, we need to be able to find creative solutions to problems and make the most out of the resources we have available. Entrepreneurship education is an ongoing process. We must make a conscious effort to try different things and make our little corner of the world a better place with our innovation and creative mindset.

It has proven wise for me to have awesome mentors like Joseph Rodrigues and Jasmine Starr and even have support groups like those found in Joseph Rodrigues's live meetings every Friday or Social Curator with Jasmine Starr. This has helped me stay focused and on track when there are so many different shiny objects out there to chase.

4. Be Adaptable

The business landscape is constantly changing. To create a thriving business is is helpful to adapt to new opportunities and challenges. It takes critical thinking.

One of the best traits of being adaptable is the ability to reframe failure. Failure is going to happen on this journey to success. It is a given. When a failure does happen try to take a different perspective. Don't accept the status quo. Instead, step away and reframe the situation. This type of mindset will take you a very long way on this journey.

5. Continuously learn

Entrepreneurs need to be willing to learn and improve in order to stay competitive and find new opportunities. This is where masterminds are very helpful. As entrepreneurs, this journey can be a lonely one. But I have found a common thread among small business owners that is helpful to bounce ideas off of others.

Another thing I enjoy doing continuously learning is reading books, listening to podcast episodes, and investing in courses to help improve my mindset on a daily basis. I come up with some of the best ideas just by listening to the same podcast episodes and books over and over again. I learn something new every single time. And talk about positive change, it happens every single time.

Joseph Rodrigues has an entrepreneurship course that I highly recommend and it is very reasonably priced too I might add.

6. Stay disciplined and focused

This one single thing can really hurt an entrepreneur and that is a lack of focus and discipline. Oftentimes we are met with hurdles to overcome and the big idea that we have takes time. It takes many small steps and procrastination can and will set in.

To counteract that procrastination one must stay disciplined and focused. I highly recommend signing up for the 12-week virtue-building program that I have. In fact, you can learn more about controlled focus and discipline in these two articles listed here.

But in every mindset of a successful entrepreneur lies a focused and disciplined mind. When you have discipline you have the following:

  • A feeling of being in control of yourself

  • Higher rates of goal achievement and success

  • Are able to overcome addictions and procrastination

  • Feel more motivated towards your goals

  • And definitely have higher satisfaction with accomplishments.

This not only creates a better life but also is an indicator of a strong entrepreneurial mindset. Entrepreneurs need to stay disciplined in staying focused on their goals and avoid distractions. And develop the habit of executing and following through with the plan.

7. Cultivate a growth mindset

A growth mindset is when entrepreneurs understand that their abilities can be developed. The effort is your means to an end, not the end. Entrepreneurs with a growth mindset believe that their abilities and intelligence can be developed through hard work, dedication, and learning from failure, which is crucial for any entrepreneur.

The business world can be a tough place. As a budding entrepreneur, it is important to keep your mind focused on growth and not the failures that happen along the way. And having a growth mindset is one of the best things you can give yourself.
